Double overtime heartbreaker
STARKVILLE, Miss., - After tying the game up with a last second field goal, No. 22 Mississippi State was able to capitalize on the momentum falling to No. 13 Arkansas in double overtime Saturday night.
The Bulldogs fumbled into the end zone during the first overtime period forcing a touchback but caught a break when Arkansas missed a 39-yard field goal forcing the second OT. Ryan Mallett tossed a 7-yard touchdown to Knile Davis for the eventual game winner as the Razorbacks improved to 8-2 and 4-3 in conference play.
"This is obviously a very disappointing loss for us," Mullen said. "I put that on our coaching staff. We have to do a much better job making sure we are focused and making the plays we need to make."
Arkansas totaled 488 yards on the night led by Mallett's 305 yard, three touchdown performance. Mallett hit on 17-of-26 passing and had one interception.
"It was a tough game on both sides," Mallett said. "It was a physical game and tat is how we like to play."
The Hogs also had a strong rushing performance from Davis on the ground. He carried 30 times for 187 yards and a pair of rushing scores to go along with his game-winning receiving touchdown.
