Gibbs has new schools trying to enter the mix
The Virginia basketball staff has been out on the road for much of the spring, checking in on the top targets on their wish list at AAU events across the nation. One player who has continued to impress is West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep combo guard Ashton Gibbs. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder was already hearing from an impressive group of schools, but a couple of national powers have recently entered the fray as well.
The main reason for the intensifying interest has been Gibbs' play with Team New York this spring, which is coming on the heels of an exceptional junior season.
"It ended up pretty well. We went 30-1 but we lost to St. Patrick's in the semifinals of the Tournament of Champions," said Gibbs of his junior campaign. "I thought I had a pretty good season. I averaged 19 points, five assists and two steals per game."
