Tragic month for Mobile safety
It has been a difficult and trying month for Mobile, Ala., safety Chris Hughes.
The six-foot, 215-pounder's father passed away just a few weeks ago leaving him to help take care of his mother and younger brother and two sisters.
"Two or three weeks ago my father had passed," Hughes said. "It's been kind of hard on my family so I've been trying to be there for them. He was in the hospital for a month before he passed. That whole month was kind of stressful for all of us. I've been trying to focus on getting closer to my family and I've been trying to stay strong for them.
"I'm trying to fill that role and I think I am doing a good job right now but you still can never replace what was there."
Football seemed to be a way for Hughes to escape his family tragedy for a few hours in the days following his father's death but even that came to an abrupt halt when he ruptured his Achilles tendon on the first day of full pads requiring surgery to repair the loose cartilage and fluid buildup.
