April 5, 2006Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard West junior defensive end/tight end prospect Kevin Watt (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) discovered last last week that he landed his first scholarship offer from the Northwestern Wildcats. Watt talks about landing his first offer this spring along with his upcoming spring travel plans in this latest recruiting update.
"I received a text message last Friday from my recruiting coach at Northwestern," Watt said. "I called back Coach Eric Washington on Saturday afternoon and he told me that the Northwestern coaches really liked my junior tape and that the Wildcats are offering me a scholarship."
Watt talked about landing his first scholarship offer from the Wildcats.
"It's great to get an offer from Northwestern. I'm planning to head up to Evanston tomorrow for a spring practice, and I'm really going to just let the entire spring practice and the experience just sink in. I'm going to talk more with the coaches at Northwestern just to get a better idea of what they have in store for me. As far as position is concerned, the coaches said that they want to see how I develop over the next few years. They could play me at any number of positions, and I totally understand and I have no problem with that at all."
Watt talked about what stands out to him about Northwestern.
"The academics are just amazing at Northwestern. I know that getting a degree from Northwestern means something in the real world. Athletically, Northwestern also has plenty to offer. I really get along great with the coaches. They seem to genuinely care about you as a person on and off the field. Northwestern is a program headed in the right direction in my opinion. It's a great feeling to get my first offer from the Wildcats."
Watt, who's back from a spring break trip to Mexico, is planning to hit a handful of college spring practices.
"Besides Northwestern tomorrow, I'm planning to check out both Iowa and Illinois over the next few weeks. I'm also planning to head out East for a weekend at the end of April. I'm planning to visit some of the Ivy League schools and possibly Boston College."
Watt has also begun to draw some recruiting interest from a few new suitors.
"Arizona State and Boston College have started to send me more and more mail. Stanford has also started sending me hand-written mail and so have several Ivy League schools."
