Arkansas preview

Mississippi State made an impressive run through the non-conference portion of their schedule to the tune of a 13-2 record and a No. 15 ranking.

But now the Bulldogs will face another set of challenges as Southeastern Conference play begins tonight taking on Arkansas on the road at 8 p.m.

MSU has won 17 of its last 20 SEC openers and are 10-3 under head coach Rick Stansbury to begin league play. The Bulldogs have opened up conference action against Arkansas three times and prevailed in all three.

However it is the Razorbacks who hold a slight lead in the overall series at 27-24. State has narrowed the gap significantly of late winning six of the last seven meetings including a sweep last season. The Bulldogs won 67-56 in Starkville and claimed a 88-78 win in Bud Walton Arena behind a 25-point scoring effort from Ravern Johnson.

Arkansas is 17-5 against the Bulldogs in games played in Fayetteville.

Mississippi State has had back-to-back nail biters losing a two-point contest to No. 6 Baylor last Wednesday to snap an 11-game winning streak before returning home to edge out Utah State 66-64 one week ago. True freshman Rodney Hood led the way with 16 points against the Aggies playing 39 minutes.
