Withey an important signee for UA coaches

7-foot-0, 225-pound San Diego Horizon center Jeff Withey was an important target for Arizona since he was a freshman in high school. The UA was an early favorite for Withey, but he made a commitment to Louisville which lasted throughout his junior year.

Withey ended up opening his recruitment back up and it didn't take the UA coaches long to take advantage of their second chance.

Now, Rivals.com's 39th ranked player in the country is a future Wildcat and the Arizona coaching staff is excited about Withey's future in Tucson.

"I didn't get to see Jeff during his freshman, sophomore and junior years of high school but according to everyone else on the staff, they feel the improvement he made was unbelievable," Kevin O'Neill said.

"The first time I laid eyes on him, he was outstanding. A big man with that kind of skill, footwork, athleticism and to be coordinated, you don't find that too often. He has tremendous upside."

"Jeff is relentless on the defensive end," Miles Simon said. "He's such a good shot blocker. He can block a shot 10 feet from the basket and reverse the ball to the other side and he's there to make a play on it. He's so long, athletic and gets off the floor so well. It's going to be a big asset for us to have a guy like that in the middle."
