Smith beginning to emerge as dominant player

During the second half of the ACC season, NC State sophomore power forward Tracy Smith is sending a message to the rest of the league: You can expect Smith to be a force to reckon with in the paint in the future.

In his last seven games, all against conference foes, Smith is averaging 15.4 points and 6.9 rebounds a contest. Also during that span he recorded his first two career double-doubles, and he missed a third by just one rebound against Maryland on Sunday night.

Those averages would tie UNC's Ty Lawson for 12th in scoring and be 13th in rebounding among ACC players if they represented Smith's season numbers. What's more impressive is that Smith has done his production all against ACC foes. If those numbers were Smith's overall conference-only stats, he would be 14th in scoring and 10th in rebounding.
