Hargrave OT has visit schedule shake-up

Terrence Hackney won't make it to Ole Miss as scheduled this weekend.

Instead, the 6-foot-7, 320-pound offensive tackle from Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy will make his first trip to Oxford, Miss., on Dec. 11 for an official visit during the Rebels' preparations for their Jan. 2 Cotton Bowl date with a Big XII opponent, presumably Oklahoma State.

Hackney's visit schedule got changed at the last minute, he said Thursday morning, due to a paperwork snag.

"I'm pretty anxious to get down there," Hackney said. "I'm real excited to see the campus. I heard it's pretty nice down there. (Ole Miss freshman offensive tackle/former Hargrave standout) Bobby Massie has said I'll love it. I can't wait to check it out, see The Grove and everything. My teammate, (Hargave defensive lineman/Ole Miss commitment) Mike Thomas, tells me all about it."

Interestingly, Hackney, a Chapel Hill, N.C., native who is eligible to leave Hargrave later this month and enroll in his school of choice next month, said he hasn't changed his plans to announce a commitment next week. From all indications, the decision has been made.

"It's probably Ole Miss," Hackney said. "Ole Miss is at the top right now. I've been talking to (Ole Miss offensive line) Coach (Mike) Markuson all week. …They've been real patient with me. There hasn't been any push yet. They're telling me I can come in, get playing time on the other side of Massie."

Hackney, a three-star prospect who is rated by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 43 prep school player, took an official visit to Marshall late last month. A scheduled visit to East Carolina never took place. Instead, his focus has been on the Rebels, who seem to be emphasizing offensive line and the defensive secondary more than any other position during this recruiting season.

Hackney said he has played guard and tackle throughout his career, and while he prefers tackle, "I just want to get on the field," he said.
