Hackney gets two new offers, preps for visit
Terrence Hackney picked up a pair of additional scholarship offers this week.
Two sets of Bulldogs _ Georgia and Mississippi State _ jumped into the fray for the big offensive tackle from Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy. Hackney said Tuesday the new offers briefly put some thoughts in his head, but in the end, very little has changed in the race for his signature.
"It put some thoughts in my mind, but I went back to thinking about how when I came to Hargrave, I had nothing," Hackney said Tuesday, a day in which college coaches converged on the school in Chatham, Va., to watch Hargrave's plethora of Division I talent work out during the Tigers' annual combine. "Ole Miss was on me first and they've stuck with me."
Hackney visited with Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt and assistants Terry Price and Mike Markuson on Tuesday. He'll see them again on Friday when he and his mother make the trip to Oxford, Miss., for an official visit weekend with the Rebels.
"I'm really looking forward to going down to Mississippi this weekend," Hackney said, adding that he told the Ole Miss coaches he was basically ready to commit. "Once we see the campus and stuff, we'll definitely make our decision. They told me to wait until then. They said they're looking forward to having me there in January. They really want me there."
Hackney, a 6-foot-7, 320-pounder, is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native is eligible to enroll at his school of choice in January.
Asked Tuesday if he would commit if his visit to Ole Miss went well, Hackney laughed.
"Yeah, you could say that," Hackney said.
