Hard work pays off for Holmes

Despite attending a small 2A school in rural Mississippi, Puckett standout Christian Holmes knew that if he put in the hard work and effort that it would eventually pay off.

Tuesday just happened to be that day.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder not only got a visit from Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen but also a scholarship offer as well.

"It was a big relief," Holmes said. "I just prayed about it. My mother and I sat down and talked about it. She told me that I had worked really hard on the field and that God has everything planned for me. Saturday night I just prayed that whoever calls - Memphis, Southeastern Louisiana or whoever - would let me know something because that would probably be my only offer because I come from such a little school. But then I was told Dan Mullen was coming."

The Bulldogs' offer was the first for Holmes. He will make the trek up to Starkville this weekend and if things go as planned he will leave committed.

"First and foremost, Puckett is maroon and white and I would like to continue to wear maroon and white," Holmes said. "But instead of being a Wolf, I would be a Dawg this time. I would like to wear my number 2 and just leave that mark at Mississippi State as well. I want to be all that I can be at Mississippi State."

Holmes attended the LSU, Florida and Ole Miss games at Davis Wade Stadium and got to see what the game day atmosphere is like on campus.
