Flashes offer Cincinnati DB

The Kent State coaching staff has been selective early on with in-state offers but on Friday afternoon the Flashes extended a verbal offer to Cincinnati (Ohio) La Salle prospect Jaleel Hytchye. The offer from Kent State makes it three total for the 5-foot-11, 165-pound defensive back, joining previous offers from Kentucky and Western Kentucky.

"Actually I didn't even know about it until I was leaving school," said Hytchye. "Coach (Tom) Grippa (La Salle's head coach) stopped me and just said 'Kent State offered you, I just got off the phone with them'."

Hytchye admits he isn't too familiar with the Kent State program but he plans to do some research on them in the near future.

"I didn't know too much about them until coach Grippa said something to me," he said. "I know they have been by the school a couple times. I'll be calling their coaches to have a conversation with them whenever I can get their information."

Kent State is in early on Hytchye but there are no fewer than four Big Ten programs showing interest in the speedy cornerback.

"Michigan and Michigan State are strong right now," he said. "Penn State started showing a lot of interest lately and Northwestern, too. That's pretty much it right now."

As Hytchye waits for more offers to come in, he is maintaining an open mind when it comes to the recruiting process, but admits he is looking forward to his next unofficial visit.

"I'm still open," he said. "I'm looking forward to my visit to Michigan though. I'm going up there March 11th, that Sunday. I might actually go up to Michigan State that weekend too."

After his trip to Michigan, Hytchye will be keeping busy with a pair of scheduled events in the next few weeks.

"I'm doing the NIKE SPARQ combine on the 18th (of March)," he said. "After that I've got a visit to Northwestern over spring break sometime in April."
