Advice from a friend

LOCUST GROVE - The recruiting process is still very new to Washington High wide receiver Antonio Goodwin but a former teammate and recent Georgia signee has already given him welcomed advice.

Yes, Branden Smith has seen it all.

The 5-star performer was arguably one of the state's top players last fall before signing with the Bulldogs two weeks ago. He's also seen it all, and it's those types of lessons that Goodwin says he tried to learn from Smith while he begins the process of making his own decision.

"Branden has helped me a lot," said Goodwin, member of the class of 2010. "He's seen it all. He's been able to give me some good advice."

Such as?

"He's told me just to take my time, enjoy myself then when the time is right make up my mind," he said. "Basically, he just said not to rush."

Smith certainly took his time.

The talented cornerback didn't commit to Georgia until early January while at the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando.

Although he just completed his sophomore year, Goodwin already has a verbal offer from the Bulldogs, one of four he currently holds.

"It was just great to get," the soft-spoken Goodwin said. "They're the state team, it's a great program."

At 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, Goodwin is being recruited by recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner.

"I really like Georgia a lot," said Goodwin, his eyes lighting up. "It's close to home and I know some of the guys there. It's a really cool place."

Goodwin says he expects to get more offers as he approaches his junior campaign. Florida, Auburn and Florida State are among the other schools that have begun to recruit him.

"We'll just see how it goes," Goodwin said. "I just want to find a good school, somewhere I feel comfortable."
