Orange look in South Carolina for talent

Bamberg (SC) Bamberg-Ehrhardt defensive end Justin Henderson is piling up all kinds of scholarship offers from the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. One of his most recent offers came from Syracuse University and that caught him by surprise.

The Orange have not ventured into South Carolina in awhile, but Henderson is a player that caught their eye early. Why did the offer catch the defensive prospect by surprise?

"I had not talked to them before they offered me, they just sent it in the mail. I actually just talked to them for the first time this week. I talked to their defensive line coach and he let me know how fast I could play if I were to go to Syracuse. He also let me know a few things about their defense and how I would fit in."

Henderson, 6-foot-4, 228 pounds does not know much about the Orange, but he is looking forward to learning about the Big East program.

"I have not heard much about them. I have seen them play a couple times before on TV. Being from the south I do not know much about them, so I have to do my research talk to the coach and find out more."

When it comes to the kind of player Henderson is he feels he has a few attributes that may put him over other defensive ends.

"I have a real good motor and I go hard all the time, I am fast, and a real good pass rusher."

It was those factors that Henderson listed that the Syracuse coaches liked about his game as well.

"He [Coach Jackson] liked that I can make a bunch of plays in the backfield and stuff. I am also a pretty fast guy, so I can drop back in coverage. I am a real good pass rusher and he said I would fit in great with their defense."

With double digit offers in hand does the impact defender have any leaders at this time?

"I would say Penn State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Auburn, and Maryland stick out right now, but not in that order and it can change."

Does that mean bad new for the Orange coaching staff and other Syracuse football fans? The answer is no according to Henderson who does have interest in the New York school.

"I just have to find out more about Syracuse. The reason they are not on there now is because I have been in touch with other coaches and I have been able to visit other schools, but like I said I just have to learn more about them and get to know their coaches."

Many schools that have offered Henderson have rich football traditions, but when it comes to picking a school what situation is he looking for?

"I kind of want to go someplace where I can make things happen and kind of be the first to do something. I want to have a great season where everybody says do you remember that team. I kind of want to go to a school and turn a program around anyway."

Syracuse might have been one of the most recent offers for Henderson, but a few other schools could be jumping in the mix.

"Auburn, Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Tennessee have talked about offering."
