Gamecocks Go South for DE

Hialeah (Fla.) Hialeah defensive end Corey Lemonier has seen his stock rise significantly in the past few weeks, accumulating an impressive offer list from some of the premier programs in the country.

"I have like 20 or so offers, mostly from the SEC," Lemonier told GamecockCentral.com. "I've got one from South Carolina, Florida, FSU, Miami, Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, Notre Dame, and more."

Though he has not yet taken a visit to Columbia, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound lineman is attracted to the Gamecocks.

"They're a good team," he said. "They have a good tradition. Coach (Steve) Spurrier is a real good coach. I'm familiar with Eric Norwood and a couple other players on the defense. I want to go to South Carolina to see the campus and the city."

Perhaps the most humorous moment of the interview came when Lemonier revealed another interesting bit of information he knew about USC.

"Their kicker was Mr. Irrelevant, right?" he asked, referring to Ryan Succop, who was the last pick in the recent NFL draft.

Five teams have set themselves apart for the talented trenchman.

"The people recruiting me real hard are Tennessee, FSU, Florida, Miami, and Ole Miss, so that's my top five," he told GamecockCentral.com. "I am still open to everyone, though."

Three visits are already in the books for Lemonier.

"I just went to Miami last week and met with Coach (Randy) Shannon and everything. This past spring we went to Florida and UCF on the way back. The campus was really nice at Florida."

Lemonier racked up 10 sacks last season for Hialeah, and one of the biggest factors in his recruitment is being able to get on the field early to do more of the same.

"Playing time," he said when asked about what was important to him. "I want to compete for some playing time or a starting job even. Academics and school atmosphere are also important. Location is not important to me."

Decision time for Lemonier could come early or closer to signing day.

"I'll probably know at the end of the summer or after I take my official visits."
