Burgett holds Iowa offer
The 2012 class in Indiana is loaded with talent and the Iowa coaches have rolled out a couple of early offers. One of those offers was extended recently to Austin Burgett, a 6-foot-7 forward from Avon, Indiana.
"Iowa has been recruiting me for a while and they offered me recently. I was pretty excited about the offer from Iowa," Burgett said. "I'm planning on visiting there in early August to get a look at the campus and get to know Coach Lickliter better."
Burgett, who averaged 8.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in his freshman year of high school, also holds scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Delaware, and Ohio. He says he is getting strong interest this summer from schools like Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, and several other Big Ten schools.
The sophomore to be is an intriguing prospect because of his blend of size, ball handling ability, and he is continuing to develop his shooting touch from the outside.
"I think I have improved this summer, especially with my outside shooting. I have really tried to work on extending my range out beyond ten feet to the three point line," he said.
This summer has been a successful one for Burgett, who plays on a very talented Spiece Indy Stars team with several other high D1 prospects.
"The summer has gone very good. We won our first two tournaments and then we played up in our third tournament and lost in the championship game."
The Spiece Indy All Stars are back on the road this week playing at the Hoops City Tournament in the Kansas City area.
