Rivals MVP commits to Mississippi State

Mississippi State picked up another commitment Friday night at the Big Dawgs Camp when three-star wide receiver Malcolm Johnson gave his pledge to the Bulldogs.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound, two-time Rivals Ultimate100 MVP claimed all along he wanted to end his recruitment before his senior season and remained true to his word.

"I'm very happy and I'm glad to get it over with," Johnson said on his way home from Starkville. "I've been thinking about it and me and my family have been talking about it and praying about it. It's the right decision and I am very happy to get it over with."

Johnson has camped at both Mississippi State and Florida State this summer as well as being named the most valuable player at the Rivals Ultimate100 combines in both Birmingham and Atlanta.

Johnson has proved himself not once, but twice this summer earning Most Valuable Player at Rivals Ultimate 100 Camps in both Birmingham and Atlanta.

As a junior, Johnson hauled in 41 passes for 492 yards and nine touchdowns for Northridge. The Jaguars finished 3-7 in Class 6A in 2008.

Johnson has been on the go all summer competing in various camps, combines and 7-on-7 tournaments and is glad to have his decision out of the way before he takes the field for his senior season.

The coaches at Northridge High School are giving the players the week off next week and Johnson is planning on taking full advantage of that.

"I'm tired," Johnson said. "I have a week off from workouts next week and I am going to use it. It's been a long summer. I really haven't had that much time to rest this summer so I am going to use this week to rest. I'm ready to lay down, rest and relax."

Johnson's tired legs caused his usual 4.64 forty speed to slow down to 4.78 at the Big Dawg Camp. As it turns out, he and his Jaguar teammates had maxed out and practiced on Thursday. Johnson squatted 330-pounds with 12 reps while maxing out on power cling at 245-pounds.
