Nation's leading rusher visiting Mississippi State

The leading rusher in the junior college ranks will be in Starkville when Mississippi State takes on LSU this weekend.

Gulf Coast Community College three-star running back Vick Ballard along with teammates Kelvin Bolden, James Carmon and Wayne Dorsey will all make the trip up from Perkinston for the early kickoff against the Tigers.

The 5-foot-11, 207-pounder picked up an offer from Troy back during the spring and is hoping to receive one from the Bulldogs soon.

"I ain't gonna lie, I like State," Ballard said. "I talk to Coach (Les) Koenning every week. I like them a lot. I'm going to their game against LSU this weekend. If they were to offer me right now they would be one of the top schools I would want to go to."

Four MSU assistant coaches were present last week to watch Ballard and Gulf Coast upset then second-ranked East Mississippi 43-26 in Scooba.

"I talked to them the day before the game so I knew they were coming," Ballard said.

Ballard is also receiving interest from Arkansas State, Iowa State and Northern Illinois.
