Harris joins Hogs, Abron leaving

The Razorbacks have officially added Houston transfer and former Little Rock (Ark.) Central High School standout Alandise Harris.

Harris, 6-6, 230, was second on the team last season in points (13.3) and rebounds (6.4) last season. He also was among Conference-USA's top 10 performers in field goal percentage (51.8), blocks (1.3) and rebounding. He knows how to get to the free throw line, having lead the team last season with 151 shots.

"I am certainly excited to have Alandise join our program," Razorback head coach Mike Anderson stated in a release. "He has shown the ability to be an excellent player at this level. I like his versatility and maturity. More importantly, he wants to be a Razorback."

Against Arkansas last season in North Little Rock, Harris scored 18 points with 6 rebounds and 2 blocks, earning player of the week honors. Harris is expected to apply for immediate eligibility. But as it stands right now he would have to sit out the 2012-13 season.

As a freshman in 2010-11, Harris started 16 of the team's final 17 games and averaged 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. He is a career 41.7 percent shooter from 3-point range, as well.

As a senior at Central, Harris averaged 20.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.7 blocks per game.

Sophomore-to-be Devonta Abron, 6-8, 255, was granted his release from Arkansas on Tuesday, the UA issued in a release. Abron wishes to be closer to home, according to the UA. CBS Sports reports a family member is ill and Abron, a native of Seagoville (Texas), hopes to gain immediate eligibility due to the reason for his transfer. Abron averaged 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds while drawing 22 starts last season.
