Maryland keeps PG close

When it finally came time for four-star PG Roddy Peters to choose a program it probably didn't go down exactly as many might have thought it would a few months ago.

But, for Mark Turgeon and the fans of the Terrapins, the only thing that mattered in the end was that Peters chose Maryland. On Tuesday, he did just that.

After a bit of a roller-coaster ride of a recruitment, the 6-foot-4 point guard from Suitland (Md.) High confirmed to Rivals.com that he's staying home shortly after a ceremony at his school.

One of the biggest movers of the summer, the four-star went from just making the 2013 Rivals150 all the way up to No. 39 nationally. When he started making his move in late spring, the question was whether or not Maryland would make a move on him.

Then, in July when Peters took it to another level the word changed to "he's all Maryland if they offer". Then, Peters didn't commit upon his offer and fans worried that they may have lost him because of their pursuit of the Harrison twins. Then Xavier was hot, then it was UCLA and then it was Kansas.

At the end of the day, though, Peters did exactly what many close to him indicated he would all along. He waited for the Harrisons to decide, he took a few weeks and he decided to stay home.

The tall and rangy point guard should be able to make an instant splash in College Park. His game is predicated on skill and savvy. He's got an exceptional hoops IQ that should allow him to make the mental transition to college quickly.

Peters joins local three-star big man Damonte Dodd as a 2013 recruit and they've also got former four-star Dez Wells sitting out as a transfer. Most importantly, the Terps have another local that they can point to as they continue rebuilding via grabbing the best local players they can and supplementing them with national talent.
