Austin excited to be a Bruin

Incoming four-star wide receiver Terrence Austin (5-10, 172, 4.47) from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly has high goals and expectations. You wouldn't want it any other way. The highly motivated receiver is also very glad he's a Bruin and can't wait to get his UCLA career going. BruinBlitz.com recently caught up with Austin to see how he was doing.

"I'm pretty much chillin," Austin said. "Except for going to the gym everyday to get faster and stronger."

Austin has also been pretty busy participating on the track as he finished second in the state with a 6-10 high jump.

The talented wide receiver now has his sights on football.

"I have talked to wide receiver coach D.J. McCarthy a little bit," Austin said. "He just called see how I'm doing and he told me he can't wait until I get there so he can work with me."

"I will show up on campus on June 26th," Austin said. "I will take some summer school classes and start working out with the team. I will also start working with the team with on the seven-on-seven drills when I get there."

"I have no eyes on redshirting," Austin said. "I'm coming in to compete for playing time and get in the rotation."

"I'm very fired up about getting to UCLA," Austin said. "I'm going to walk on campus 12 days after I graduate from Poly."

"My goal is to become Pac-10 Freshman of the Year," Austin said. "Whatever I can do to help the team, I'm all for it. If I can help by returning kicks that's what I'll do."

"Please let UCLA fans know that I'm very excited about being a Bruin," Austin said. "The reason I chose UCLA was because it was the most perfect place for me to be."

Remember Austin chose UCLA over the likes of Notre Dame, Miami, Arizona and Oregon.

Oh, yeah and USC offered him and made late run on Austin who quickly rebuffed their overtures.

As a junior Austin had 48 receptions for 891 yards and five touchdowns. He is also an excellent return man who accounted for 454 return yards and three special team touchdowns.

One could only imagine what Austin would have done if Poly would have had a quarterback who could have gotten him the ball.

Austin was a member of the Rivals.com Rivals250 teams for the class of 2006. Rivals.com ranked him as the nation's No. 14 wide receiver prospect for the class of 2006 and was on the Rivals.com postseason California top 100 2006 landing as the Golden State's No. 16th prospect at any position.
