Dollard, Prowell begin season on suspension
Quan Prowell has been suspended for violation of team rules and sophomore forward Josh Dollard suspension continues, head coach Jeff Lebo announced Friday.Auburn junior forward
The earliest Dollard may return is the Nov. 28 Nicholls State game while the earliest for Prowell is Dec. 19 vs. Tennessee State. Both players will still be able to practice with the team.
"Playing basketball at Auburn University is a privilege," Lebo said. "There is a tremendous amount of responsibility that goes with it. These young men fell short of that. It definitely is going to be a hardship for our team, but hopefully these young men will learn a lesson."
Dollard, who was suspended for Auburn's last five games last year, started 12 of 23 games averaging 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds in 22.9 minutes per game. The 6-foot-7 Hemingway, S.C., shot 46 percent from the field and 68 percent from the foul line.
Prowell was redshirted last season after transferring from Furman University, where he averaged 15.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in 2004-05. The 6-foot-8 Columbus, Ga., native totaled 19 points and five rebounds in only 24 minutes in an 85-74 loss at Auburn Nov. 22, 2004.
Auburn opens preseason practice Oct. 13. The Tigers play a pair of exhibition games vs. Faulkner Nov. 3 and AUM Nov. 7 before playing host to their season opener against Troy Nov. 10.
