FOCUS ON RUN GAME & SHORT-YARDAGE

Tuesday's post-practice media opportunity was the first chance to speak to players after they had a chance to review the film from Saturday's scrimmage, which was the first of the 2017 spring.

"I think we have a lot of areas to improve on," quarterback Austin Allen said following Tuesday's closed practice. "I think we have a lot of weapons on the outside, a lot of weapons with the running backs. Maleek Williams (17 carries for 89 yards), he ran like a beast. I didn't know he could run like that."

Allen expects to work more on short-yardage and goal line in addition to the work they've already put as the week moves forward and heading into the second scrimmage on Saturday.

"We're trying to emphasize that as much as we can," projected starting left tackle Colton Jackson said. "That's what the Razorbacks are about, running the ball. That's our identity, that's what we're trained to do."

SLOTS & FLANKERS

Before taking a more in-depth look at Arkansas' situation at wide receiver, let's look at what they are losing.

Wide receivers accounted for 2,436 of Arkansas’ 3,434 passing yards last season (70.9 percent) with 1,482 yards being attributed to only seniors Keon Hatcher and Drew Morgan (43.2 percent of total passing yards and 60.8 percent of total yards caught by wide receivers).

While 1,877 of those wide receiver yards (77.1 percent) went players who were seniors in 2016, replacing Dominique Reed and Cody Hollister isn't going to be as daunting as replacing Morgan and Hatcher. Reed did not build off a great finish to 2015, and Hollister wasn't ever healthy. Neither player were big factors in the offense last season.
