In-state junior enjoys game day experience

Searcy (Ark.) junior offensive lineman Drew Vest was impressive at Arkansas' summer camp in June, and he returned to Fayetteville for an unofficial visit during the Hogs' game against TCU last Saturday.

Vest, 6-5, 290, already owns an offer from UCA and is receiving interest from several others, including the Razorbacks.

"We talked to Coach (Barry) Lunney for a little bit during lunch at the visit," Vest said. "We talked for 5-10 minutes. His comments were that it's still pretty early, but he said I'm definitely one of the top guys. Darius Thomas from Jonesboro, he's definitely their top guy. He's a dude.

"I get letters in the mail probably three or four times from Arkansas. I've got the offer from UCA that I got this summer. I got invited to a Memphis game day, so I'm going to Memphis. I'm going to Ole Miss because I've been talking to their coach for a while now. I'll actually be down there for the Arkansas-Ole Miss game."

Vest, who has an older sister attending the UA, has been to several Razorback games in the past but never as a recruit.

"It was fun. It was different from what I've experienced, because all I've ever experienced with Razorback games was tailgating and watching," Vest said. "So it was really interesting to see how the actual whole game day process went. That was pretty cool."

While the game didn't go Arkansas' way -- TCU won, 28-7 -- Vest was impressed by the home crowd.

"It was impressive seeing it from where we sit as recruits. You're pretty much on the field because of how low you are. The atmosphere, I mean it was loud. I can only imagine how it's going to be when the stadium is finished. It's going to be rocking in there."

Vest will now make his first unofficial visit to Central Arkansas this weekend before heading to Memphis on September 30.

Searcy High will host Morrilton in a clash between two unbeaten teams Friday night at 7 p.m.
