FAYETTEVILLE — Coming out of the same high school that produced three NFL Draft picks about a decade earlier, Treylon Burks was one of the most hyped players to come through Arkansas in several years.
Once he arrived on campus, the expectations for the four-star, Rivals150 wide receiver only grew. Teammates, particularly the defensive backs who faced him in practice, heaped on the praise.
Safety Joe Foucha predicted he would “explode” this season because he already had the physicality needed to play in the SEC, while cornerback Jarques McClellion compared him to former Alabama standout and current NFL star Julio Jones.
Halfway through his freshman season, Burks is proving that all of the hype and all of the praise was deserved. Despite missing a game because of a concussion, he’s caught 15 passes for 255 yards. His 17.0 yards per reception leads the team.
Nothing he’s done so far has made McClellion second-guess his original comparison.
