"Do you think the aggressive RB recruiting, to include possibly signing a junior college RB, signals a particular message about the current backs on the roster?" - redbirdhawg

They definitely want their own style of running back, but a lot of it comes down to depth, too.

Devwah Whaley returns as a junior, but he's got to trim down in order to be a better fit in their offense. Chase Hayden obviously showed a lot in seven games last year but he's still a young player. T.J. Hammonds has less than 50 career carries and hasn't spent all of his time at running back. Maleek Williams hasn't played and he's another one who will need to trim down.

If one of those guys were to transfer or get injured, you're down to three scholarship running backs and that's dangerous territory. You really need at least five. Jeremy Gibson wasn't really what they were looking for but they'd like to have one in this class. Whether that's a high school prospect, a JUCO guy or even a transfer is to be determined.

I believe Rakeem Boyd is a very likely candidate to be the guy.
