New Arkansas coach Chad Morris made it clear that the ability to recruit is a required attribute for assistant coach employment at the University of Arkansas, and it is clear he had a model for assembling his defensive staff.

New defensive coordinator John Chavis brought two coaches who are very familiar with his philosophies in Steve Caldwell and Ron Cooper. John Scott was retained from the previous staff and knows more about the personnel on the team than anybody. And then Mark Smith is the lone defensive coach who was a part of Morris' staff last year at SMU.
