SMU head coach Chad Morris will be the new head coach at the University of Arkansas, according to sources close to the situation.
In 2016, Morris doubled SMU's wins from his inaugural season, though he only went from one win to two. The Mustangs made a nice jump forward last year with a 5-7 mark, including 3-5 in conference play.
The Mustangs are 7-5 this season and finished conference play with a 4-4 mark. Three of his losses this season came to Top-20 teams, including a 7-point loss to No. 15 UCF and Scott Frost.
Morris was a longtime high school coach in Texas with 15 years as a head coach at five different high schools before taking the offensive coordinator position at Tulsa in 2010.
After just one season, he was hired as the offensive coordinator at Clemson, where he served from 2011-2104. He is originally from Edgewood, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M in 1992.
SMU paid Morris an estimated $2 millon this season. His buyout is unknown as SMU is a private institution. Sources say Morris has agreed to $3.75 milion per year over six years.
