Beyond the Box Score
Scroggins’ Start
On the surface, Cody Scroggins’ stats on Thursday were not all that impressive. Although he struck out eight batters, he needed 66 pitches to get through only 3 2/3 innings in which he gave up three earned runs.
However, that was about as misleading of a final line as a pitcher can have. Scroggins was phenomenal. Considering he is two years removed from Tommy John surgery and was making his first career start, head coach Dave Van Horn hoped to get three innings out of him.
