Barford, Macon stay hot as Razorbacks roll Bucknell, 101-73

BOX SCORE

The Jaylen Barford and Daryl Macon Show continued for Arkansas as the Razorbacks rolled past Bucknell for a 101-73 victory in front of 13,404 Sunday afternoon inside Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville (Ark.).

Barford led the way with a career-high 27 points and 5 rebounds while Macon added 21 and 4 assists for the Hogs. Fellow senior guard Anton Beard added 11 more points to help the Razorbacks (2-0) protect a large lead for the entire second half.

"He's a good player," Bucknell head coach Nathan Davis said of Barford. "We knew coming in that their guards are good players. They can score at all three levels on an efficient rate. I thought (Barford) made a lot of tough shots.

"(Barford) had 21 in the first half, but there were some where I thought we did a really good shots. They just went in. Give them credit for being players that stepped up and made plays."

Barford hit 10 of 15 shots on the night including two of three from downtown. He could have topped 30 points if not for four misses from the free throw line.

Arkansas' bigs got involved, as well, as freshman Daniel Gafford reached double digits with 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting and Trey Thompson finished with 11 rebounds while recording 2 points.

Gafford, who once again fouled out before reaching 20 minutes of playing time, went without a block but was a strong presence for Arkansas' defense.

"I thought (Gafford) did a good job, defensively," Davis said. "He does a good job defensively because of his length, being able to protect the basket."

The Razorbacks score 29 points off 18 turnovers, and aggressive dribble-drive play from the senior guards helped the Hogs outscore the Bison 54-28 in the paint.

The Hogs led 56-34 at half and pushed its advantage to as much as 27 with just over four minutes left in the second half. Bucknell led 8-7 early in the first half but trailed the rest of the way.

The Bison (0-2) got an impressive 24 points and 10 rebounds from forward Zach Thomas. Nana Foulland had 17 points, and Stephen Brown put up 13 points and nine assists.
