Closing Out the Game

The Razorbacks separated to a 20-point lead with 10 minutes left to play Wednesday night against UT Arlington and despite only letting the Mavs get back within 12 at the final buzzer, Eric Musselman was displeased with how the Hogs executed in the back half of the second period.

After the 10-minute mark, Desi Sills had a missed layup, Justin Smith missed a 3-pointer, Moses Moody committed to foul giving UTA two points, Smith missed a layup and a putback attempt, as did Moody. With six minutes left, Smith and Moody missed more three attempts, Moody another jumper, and on and on. Overall, there were 16 misses from the Hogs and several fouls in the final 10.

"Better execution," Musselman said Thursday on what he would've liked to see done better. "Better finishing around the rim. Those two things in particular. When you grab an offensive rebound and there’s five defenders next to you, maybe kicking the ball out instead of throwing it up at the rim when it’s got no chance to go in the basket. That might help.
