If you want to judge Arkansas' recruiting class, tonight would be a good place to start since seven recruits will be on display at Warren.
In all, Arkansas has seven commitments playing in the game that will feature at least 12 Division I prospects for the Class of 2008. Warren has four players headed to Arkansas, Camden Fairview has three going to Arkansas and probably three headed to other SEC schools as well as Bearden's Dewayne Watts, 6-1, 175, 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash, at safety and Texarkana running back Dennis Johnson, 5-8, 180, 4.35.
The four teams will play a jamboree tonight beginning at around 7 p.m. A junior high jamboree will take place at 5:30 with the four senior high teams following that. All will play each other a half.
Warren players headed to Arkansas are wide receivers Jarius Wright, 5-11 1/2,180, 4.4, Greg Childs, 6-4, 195, 4.5, Chris Gragg, 6-3, 195, 4.6, and athlete Basmine Jones, 6-1, 210, 4.49.
The Fairview players promising to sign with the Razorbacks are quarterback Jim Youngblood, 6-3 1/2, 216, 4.69, running back De'Anthony Curtis, 5-10, 209, 4.41, and defensive lineman Lavunce Askew, 6-3 1/2, 279, 4.87. Fairview also has three players expected to sign with other SEC schools including possibly Tennessee and Mississippi State. Defensive end Brian Christopher, 6-4, 235, 4.8, and wide receiver Domineck Thompson, 6-1, 200, 4.35, have been offered by Tennessee while cornerback Leotis Porchia, 5-9, 165, 4.4, has been offered by Mississippi State.
Watts is one of the state's top athletes and is still considered open. Johnson has offers to Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Louisiana Tech after rushing for 1,471 yards and 18 touchdowns and leading the Razorbacks to the state championship. Johnson was the MVP of the state title game.
