Hogs extend sixth in-state offer for 2014

Arkansas has extended a sixth scholarship offer within the Natural State for the Class of 2014.

The news broke late Tuesday evening when Rogers (Ark.) linebacker Zack Wary confirmed with HawgSports.com that Arkansas was the latest to jump on board with an offer. The 6-4, 215-pounder owns other offers from Arkansas State and Air Force.

Wary, who posted a 4.45 forty and a 9'11" broad jump at Arkansas' camp this summer, is also receiving late interest from Auburn and Oklahoma State, and both schools will be visiting him at some point next week.

The late-blooming linebacker said he met with Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema two weeks ago, but the offer wasn't extended until Sunday afternoon.

"I met with Coach Bielema in his office a couple of weeks ago, and he was telling me how he'd love for me to play for Arkansas and all of that," Wary said. "Coach Lunney came by on Sunday and told me about the offer.

"I've been talking to Oklahoma State, Auburn, Tulsa, Arkansas State and Air Force. Oklahoma State and Auburn are coming by to see me next week. I'll keep things open for now and see if I can possibly get a couple more options. I want to get everything on the table. I don't want to commit until I take my visits so I can truly experience what every school is like."

Wary plans to make an official visit at Arkansas on December 13-15. He also has dates set for Arkansas State (January 17) and Air Force (January 24).

Wary, who scored a 33 on the ACT, has two siblings currently enrolled at the University of Arkansas, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily a lock for the nearby Razorbacks.

"My dad was always a big Miami Hurricane fan, so that was always my team in football," Wary said. "It's kind of ironic that Coach Randy Shannon is actually the linebackers coach at Arkansas now, so that's pretty cool.

"So, to be honest, I actually didn't really grow up a huge Arkansas fan like most are around here. But when it comes to going to college to play football, a lot of that stuff doesn't matter."

Wary moved to Arkansas from Kansas City when he was 2 years old. His father graduated from Kansas University.
