In-State Prospects Update

Arkansas has a number a players around the country this week with most centralized in Kansas City for the Mid America All-American Camp including East Poinsett County's trio of Marcus Monk, Magnum Role and P.J. Lacy, Heber Springs' Preston Cranford, Mountain Home's Zach McGrath and Little Rock Mills' Bam Doyne.

Monk, Role, Lacy, McGrath and Cranford all play for the Arkansas Hawks on the summer circuit while Doyne, who has been with the Arkansas Rockets, may switch to the Arkansas Wings for nationals. All will be juniors next season.

All of the Arkansans have been split up on different teams for the camp, which is by invitation only and includes 80 prospects this year.

Monk has lived up to his hype and produced some solid performances. He scored 14 points and dished out 6 assist in his first game of the camp and then turned the heads of recruiters from Colorado, Kansas State and Texas A&M with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in an afternoon game.

Monk completed the day by scoring 24 points and nine rebounds in the evening.

The 6-foot-5 guard/forward heated up again today with 14 points and 6 rebounds this morning and impressed coaches from St. Louis, Fresno State and Utah, who stayed after inquiring about Monk’s college plans.

Cranford is another Arkansan enjoying attention at the camp. He’s been draining 3s from all sides of the perimeter.

Monday, the 6-foot-7 Cranford lit it up by scoring all of his points on treys. He was 8-for-14 from beyond the arc — including a 5-for-5 effort in his opener — to finish with 24 points through two games.

Today, Cranford finished with 17 points and was 5-for-7 from behind the arc in his first game. His shot numbers from the second game were unavailable, but he did drop in 14 points in his second game.

Lacy has turned some heads with his ball handling both days and the point guard prospect was strong Monday by scoring 14 points and dishing out 11 assists in his first game before finishing with 11 points and 8 assists in his second game and 14 points and 9 assists in his third game.

Role, a 6-foot-11 move-in from the Bahamas, gained some confidence in his first game with 4 points and 8 rebounds before taking over the paint with more aggressive play in his final two games on Monday.

The junior-to-be had 8 points, 7 rebounds and an amazing 7 blocked shots in his first game and then turned in 9 points, 14 boards and 5 rejections in his second game.

McGrath has been solid through two days. The junior-to-be scored 8 points in his first game Monday and then had 13 points and 6 rebounds in his second game. McGrath’s best game came in the evening when he finished with 21 points.

Tuesday, McGrath had 11 and 14 points, respectively, in his two games.

Doyne had 11 points and 4 rebounds in his first game of the camp. He then had 6 points in the afternoon outing and then added 8 points and 3 rebounds in his third game. Doyne’s statistics from today were unavailable.

Little Rock Parkview’s Mark Winston is at the Adidas ABCD Camp in New Jersey this week while another in-state prospect, Jacksonville’s Mike Smith, reportedly did not make the camp.

Fayetteville senior-to-be Ronnie Brewer was thought by some to be headed to the Nike Camp in Indianapolis this week, but instead is busy taking a course in College Prep Algebra this summer to improve on his 3.0 GPA.
