Marlin (Texas) safety D’Nerian Wrighter came up short in their bid for a state championship as they lost in the championship game to Atlanta.
Wrighter played a fantastic game, and he has played well all season long.

“Our season just ended last Saturday,” Wrighter said. “I played like a winner, but it’s a team thing. I had 19 tackles.”
Wrighter was impressed with Atlanta athlete Dallas Washington. Washington is also being recruited by the Razorbacks.
“He had a real good game. He returned two punts for touchdowns. They were like 86 and 73 yards. He’s a real athlete,” Wrighter said.
When asked about his favorites, Wrighter said, “I’m really still neutral, but you could say Arkansas is way up there on the chart. [Matterial Richardson] feels about the same. He’s been living with me since the eighth grade. We only have a bathroom that separates our bedrooms.”
“Red” Richardson is a standout cornerback for Marlin, and he has also been extended a scholarship offer by the Hogs. In fact, the Marlin duo has been sought by Razorback coaches for most of the recruiting process. Both will likely attend the same school.
“There’s like a 90% chance that the same school will land both of us,” Wrighter said.
When asked the chances that school will be Arkansas, Wrighter said, “There is about an 80% chance. It’s looking real good.”
Wrighter and Richardson have an official visit set up to Arkansas on the big Jan. 16 weekend. That is the only visit they have set up for sure right now.
“I had some scheduled early on, but my season lasted so long,” he said. “I do plan to visit every weekend in January – from the ninth on.”
That would give Wrighter three more visits. He can take one on Jan. 9, Jan. 16 (to Arkansas), Jan. 22 and Jan. 30. He is considering Oklahoma, Florida, Notre Dame and Kansas State. He said TCU and Texas A&M are also possibilities.
“I’ve got to narrow it down out of them,” he said. “I’ll have to narrow it down to three of them.” Wrighter has plenty of options to choose from. According to him, he has over 50 scholarship offers so far.
