FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — After being extremely thin at the catcher position just a few weeks ago, the Diamond Hogs now have three players transferring in behind the plate.

Former New Mexico State freshman catcher Cal Kilgore announced Wednesday evening that he intends to transfer to Arkansas.

"I'm thankful for the season I got to play last year and all of the bonds and friendships I made," Kilgore said in a tweet. "With that being said, I couldn't be more excited to announce I'm transferring to the University of Arkansas."

During his freshman campaign with New Mexico State, Kilgore hit with a .250 batting average in 33 starts. He had 23 hits, 11 RBIs and eight doubles in 92 plate appearances.

Kilgore had eight multi-hit performances last season, including a three-hit effort against Dixie State on May 1.

He was successful in five of his seven steal attempts on the year. He struggled with strikeouts as he struck out 35 times compared to just seven walks.

Behind the plate, Kilgore had a .974 fielding percentage and seven errors. He caught just 10 of the 28 runners that attempted to steal on him.

Kilgore attended high school at Bluevalley Southwest in Shawnee, Kansas, where he was named First Team All State, First Team EKL and Second Team All-American.

Arkansas now has three incoming catchers for next season — Parker Rowland from Eastern Oklahoma State, Hudson Polk from Oklahoma and Kilgore.

The Diamond Hogs are now up to six Division 1 transfers, and 16 incoming transfers total. Click here for the full offseason transfer tracker.
