Boise State head coach Chris Petersen briefly discussed his name being discussed with other job openings on Monday during his regularly scheduled press conference at 2 p.m. (CST). The following is a transcript of the Q&A session where he is discussing that topic:
It's that time of year again. You know, your name gets mentioned for every single job in the country.
"22 minutes is better than I thought."
Is it a distraction, how do you do it?
"It is not even kind of because it's just rumors. That's all I really want to say about this, and I say it every year. It's just rumors. I don't even think half the time it's reporters. Everybody's a reporter these days. Everybody's got an opinion on a blog or something like that. So, throw it out and 'oh, it's going to happen.'
"I remember Chad a couple of years ago just had to talk to me, sorry Chad had to. 'But this one is really, really true, this one I promise you.' This one's getting legs. I mean, it was so far from false. It couldn't be...
"So, I mean, it is what it is. You guys love it. I know it's great. Sells whatever. But it means zero here. We don't even pay attention to it."
Is there trouble with it that your name comes up so often?
"The only trouble with recruiting is 99.9 percent is always completely false. The problem is .1. But there hasn't even been .1, so...yeah."
