Week 4 of the 2019 NFL season is in the books. There were 12 former Arkansas players on 53-man rosters across the league.
It’s worth noting that Hjalte Froholdt, who is on injured reserve, is not included in that number and neither are the six players currently on practice squads - Keon Hatcher (Packers), Cody Hollister (Titans), Mitchell Loewen (Saints), Bijhon Jackson (Panthers), Randy Ramsey (Packers) and Dan Skipper (Patriots).
Here’s a look at how the 12 players on 53-man rosters performed over the weekend…
Brandon Allen - Denver Broncos
Week 5: 3:05 p.m. CT Sunday (CBS) at Chargers
Season Stats: N/A
Although he was active, Allen served as Joe Flacco’s backup and did not play in the Broncos’ 26-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Trey Flowers - Detroit Lions
Week 5: BYE
Season Stats: 4 games (4 starts), 197 defensive snaps; 15 tackles (8 solo), 1 sack, 1.5 TFL, 3 QB hits
Coming off a breakout performance in Week 3, Flowers continued his solid play in the Lions’ 34-30 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He made four tackles, including one assisted tackle for a loss, and notched another quarterback hit, as seen below.
Flowers’ biggest play, however, came on the Chiefs’ first drive of the second half. He forced a fumble that Detroit recovered and turned into points, pulling within seven. According to Pro Football Focus, he has the second highest rush defense grade for all defensive linemen this year.
Dre Greenlaw - San Francisco 49ers
Week 5: 7:15 p.m. CT Monday (ESPN) vs. Browns
Season Stats: 3 games (2 starts), 86 snaps, 57 special teams snaps; 9 tackles (5 solo)
The 49ers were one of two teams on a bye in Week 4.
Hunter Henry - Los Angeles Chargers
Week 5: N/A - Out with injury
Season Stats: 1 game (1 start), 58 offensive snaps; 4 receptions, 60 yards
Despite being out for an extended period of time with a broken knee, Henry has not been placed on injured reserve. Instead, he was one of the Chargers’ seven inactive players in their 30-10 win over the Miami Dolphins. By not going on IR, he’s eligible to return at any time instead of sitting out a minimum of eight weeks.
Jason Peters - Philadelphia Eagles
Week 5: Noon CT Sunday (CBS) vs. Jets
Season Stats: 4 games (4 starts), 276 offensive snaps
Playing on a short week after missing a few snaps because of nausea, Peters played all 62 offensive snaps in the Eagles’ 34-27 win over the Green Bay Packers. Not only that, but he earned an 81.0 grade from Pro Football Focus for his performance.
Through four weeks, Peters has yet to allow a sack and only six pressures in 165 pass-blocking snaps. That has helped him post a 79.2 overall grade, which ranks seventh on Philadelphia’s team and fourth among all NFL offensive tackles.
Frank Ragnow - Detroit Lions
Week 5: BYE
Season Stats: 4 games (4 starts), 290 offensive snaps, 16 special teams snaps; 1 tackle (1 solo), 1 fumble recovery
Just as he does every week, Ragnow played all 77 offensive snaps in the Lions’ 34-30 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Although he was penalized twice - once for holding and once for a false start - he continues to block well in the run game, as seen in the clip below. According to Pro Football Focus, he is the No. 1 run-blocking center in the NFL.
Chris Smith - Cleveland Browns
Week 5: 7:15 p.m. CT Monday (ESPN) at 49ers
Season Stats: 3 games (0 starts), 59 defensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps; 1 pass defended
Smith did not record any statistics in the Browns’ 40-25 win over the Baltimore Ravens, but he did play 24 defensive snaps and one special teams snap. He earned a 59.4 grade from Pro Football Focus.
Jeremy Sprinkle - Washington Redskins
Week 5: Noon CT Sunday (CBS) vs. Patriots
Season Stats: 4 games (3 starts), 95 offensive snaps, 44 special teams snaps; 5 receptions, 58 yards; 2 tackles (2 solo)
Sprinkle continues to get consistent reps on offense, playing 21 offensive snaps - and 11 special teams snaps - in the Redskins’ 24-3 loss to the New York Giants. He was targeted three times, but managed to catch only one for 20 yards. The other two were incomplete because of an excellent defensive play and a bad throw. On special teams, Sprinkle made one solo tackle on punt coverage.
Armon Watts - Minnesota Vikings
Week 5: Noon CT Sunday (FOX) at Giants
Season Stats: N/A
For the fourth straight week, Watts was one of the Vikings’ seven inactive players in their 16-6 loss to the Chicago Bears, as he is the team’s 10th defensive lineman.
Jonathan Williams - Indianapolis Colts
Week 5: 7:20 p.m. CT Sunday (NBC) at Chiefs
Season Stats: N/A
Now healthy from a rib injury suffered during the preseason, Williams was a healthy scratch and one of the Colts’ seven inactive players in their 31-24 loss to the Oakland Raiders. He has been moved from third to fourth on Indianapolis’ unofficial depth chart this week.
Deatrich Wise Jr. - New England Patriots
Week 5: Noon CT Sunday (CBS) at Redskins
Season Stats: 3 games (0 starts), 44 defensive snaps; 3 tackles (3 solo), 1 TFL, 1 sack, 3 QB hits, 1 forced fumble
Wise played only 11 defensive snaps in the Patriots’ 16-10 win over the Buffalo Bills, but still managed to make a solo tackle. He was also penalized for being offside, but the penalty was offset by an offensive holding call.
Jarius Wright - Carolina Panthers
Week 5: Noon CT Sunday (CBS) vs. Jaguars
Season Stats: 4 games (1 start), 172 offensive snaps, 1 special teams snap; 10 receptions, 126 yards
As you might expect from a veteran, Wright stepped up in a big way in the Panthers’ 16-10 win over the Houston Texans with backup quarterback Kyle Allen under center. In his eighth season in the NFL, he doubled his season receptions total by catching five passes for 59 yards. Two of those catches came on third down and moved the chains, including the play below.
