Arkansas suffered another blowout defeat Saturday night in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, losing to No. 21 Auburn 52-20.

The Tigers racked up a whopping 629 yards of total offense, including 345 rushing yards and 284 passing. Arkansas could only muster 334 with their new up-tempo offense – 171 rushing and 163 passing. Of the 71,961 in attendance, an estimated 80 percent of them had hit the exits with five minutes to play in the third quarter.

“We lost and we didn’t play good enough to win,” Arkansas quarterback Cole Kelley said after the game. “We just kept killing ourselves. We were driving the ball, we just couldn’t finish drives. Turnovers, I take a sack on first down, you can’t do that.”

Auburn totally blew the doors off Arkansas in the third quarter - something Razorback fans are used to watching - turning a 17-6 game into 45-13 with 28 points and 239 yards of offense. Auburn came out of the break and put together a 10-play, 75-yard drive in 2 minutes and 50 seconds to go up 24-6.

“We had some success running and they started to bring guys down and play zero coverage. We made a pass play or two and we kept them off balance,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. “We had some explosive plays and we were able to get the tempo going. I think our quarterback and offensive line played well. Pettway played well, you can tell he’s getting closer to 100 percent.”

The past three games, all blowout losses, Arkansas was outscored 17-0 in the third quarter at South Carolina (48-22 final), was hammered 24-0 by halftime at Alabama (41-9 final) and was whipped 28-7 in the third quarter against Auburn (52-20 final).
