Arkansas started classes on Monday, and the first practice since camp was Tuesday. With that comes a greater focus on the upcoming opponent, starting work against a scout team and the expansion of the roster from 105 to 120 players.
“Today was our first real big day of La. Tech prep," Arkansas defensive coordinator Robb Smith said following Tuesday's practice. "Thought it was off to a good start. Lot of stuff happens the first day of class, you’ve got guys breaking up on scout team. Really liked the way our guys responded.”
Secondary to be most improved unit?
Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said on Monday that he would be surprised at the end of the year if the secondary isn't the most improved unit on the team. The stats don't tell the whole story, but Arkansas had the worst pass defense in the SEC last season.
They were easily last in the SEC in passing yardage surrendered at 275.2 yards per game. Twelfth-place LSU gave up 224.3 – an average of 50.9 fewer yards per game or 611
