Three homers lift Hogs to series win over Mizzou

Dominic Fletcher, Grant Koch and Carson Shaddy each hit home runs as No. 24 Arkansas took a key series at No. 18 Missouri with a 9-8 win on Sunday.

Josh Alberius (2-3) was credited with the win for the Razorbacks after allowing four hits and just one earned run in three full innings. Arkansas saw its 9-3 lead slip to just one run in the bottom of the ninth, but Cannon Chadwick gained a strikeout to strand two Tigers and seal the win.

Andy Toelken took the loss for the Tigers giving up four hits and three runs in just one inning.

The win gave the Hogs (20-5, 5-1) their 12th in the last 14 outings and two conference series victories to start the 2017 season.

B1 - Trey Harris reached on a walk and would make it to third base on a Kameron Misner single followed by a throwing error. Brian Sharp flied out to plate Harris, but the Tigers would leave two men stranded.

T2 - Fletcher led off with a solo shot to right to even the score at 1-1, and the Razorbacks would go on to hit three straight singles to chase Missouri's starter. Carson Shaddy and Eric Cole would cross the plate to give the Hogs a 3-1 lead.

T4 - Jake Arledge scored on a fielding error and Grant Koch blasted a three-run homer to score Luke Bonfield and Chad Spanberger, pushing the Razorbacks' lead to 7-1.

B4 - Harris delivered a 2-RBI single to left field but the Tigers left three more men on base.

T5 - Shaddy's solo shot to right-center gave the Hogs an 8-3 advantage.

T7 - Arkansas added what would become a very important insurance run when Koch scored on a fielding error.

B8 - Brett Bond began Missouri's rally with a leadoff double. Alex Samples followed with a single, and the Razorbacks replaced Kevin Kopps with Chadwick. A pair of groundouts and a wild pitch led to the Tigers picking up four runs in the inning before Robbie Glendinning's flyout killed the threat and left a man stranded.

B9 - Samples had a two-out single and would later cross home plate on an Ian Nelson single, but Chadwick struck out Connor Brumfield to end the game and strand two more Missouri runners.
