Arkansas assistant coaches revealed what might happen in various situations from a personnel standpoint on both offense and defense on Thursday.
David Williams fits in at RB
As it stands, the top three running backs appear to be sophomore Devwah Whaley, senior graduate transfer David Williams and true freshman Chase Hayden with fellow true freshman Maleek Williams still in the mix.
David Williams' emergence as an older player who is also a bigger back, 6-1, 229, appears to have put him in favor ahead of Maleek Williams, 5-11, 218, who has similar attributes but is less experienced.
"Since David has been here he's been nothing but a great teammate," running backs coach Reggie Mitchell said. "It has been a pretty good room because all those guys are helping one another, and they all want to be good. There's no animosity, no jealousy, nothing like that so it's pretty good chemistry."
Whaley getting what's there and more
In Saturday's scrimmage, Whaley ran 16 times for 78 yards (4.9 yards per carry) with the No. 1 offense against the No. 2 defense. David ran 11 times for 51 yards (4.6 ypc), again with the 1s versus the 2s. Whaley has been consistent in scrimmages, but dating to this past spring he has yet to just go off with a couple of huge plays.
"I think Devwah has gotten what has been there and more. I think he's done a great job
