Just to build on Danny West’s weekend article regarding the running backs Arkansas has offered for the Class of 2019, here is my analysis of the top seven backs after watching each prospect's highlight videos several times.
I personally think Arkansas needs to sign one back in the 2019 class. That year, T.J. Hammonds and Devwah Whaley will be seniors, Chase Hayden and Rakeem Boyd will be juniors, and Maleek Williams and Maleek Barkley will be sophomores.
That gives Arkansas six running backs for 2019. On the surface, that seems like plenty of backs, but not all these guys are going to be great players, this is a position group that sees a lot of injuries and it certainly wouldn’t be unthinkable to assume someone could transfer over the next two years (or even leave early for the NFL Draft).
Running back is a position where there are quick fixes out of the high school talent pool. There are areas in which a back can improve in college, but generally these guys can either run or they can’t, and if they can run then they can play.
