Bielema names Kelley backup QB
Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema announced Wednesday that if there were a game tomorrow, redshirt freshman Cole Kelley would be the backup quarterback. He told both Kelley and 2016 backup Ty Storey on Tuesday.
"We did kind of transition on Tuesday, sat both Ty and Cole down and told Cole if the game was tomorrow he'd be the first guy in there. When I list them on the depth chart Friday, they'll be slashed. Whoever practices the best through the course of the week.
"There's a clear-cut number two. Cole Kelley is number two. Really good because we've got 2B. I think it's better than any situation we've ever had.
"The best thing they've got going in competition amongst themselves. Cole may be the guy this week, Ty could be the guy next week. And to be quite honest depending game situation might determine who goes into the game overall."
Bielema said early on in camp they were leaning towards going with Storey, but the last seven or eight practices Kelley has separated himself. When they were light on practice with Austin Allen the last several days of camp, Kelley really shined in his opportunities with the first offense.
Updates on Cornelius & Hammonds
Jared Cornelius got back involved on Monday, and T.J. Hammonds is expected to be back in full by the end of the week. Hammonds has been running around this week and had no ill effects after Tuesday's practice.
