Freshmen impressions and more observations from Day 1 of camp

Media members were granted access to Arkansas’ first practice of preseason camp on Thursday for 20 minutes, but there was enough time to make a few observations.

It is always a little different watching a recruit line up alongside other college football players for the first time. Do they seem as fast? Are they as big? Who do they resemble on the team now? I'll answer several of those questions about the new players.


We watched the team stretch, watched them go through individual drills and special teams work before some group work and a brief look at 'team' to at least get some idea of where they are staring out with the depth charts.

Freshmen first impresssions

Cole Kelley still looks 6-7, 258 pounds. He looks like he’s holding a youth football. Hlooks like he has a lot of tools that need some polish, which is what we all thought.

Jordan Jones is what one would expect, a very tall-looking 6-1, 184 with a smooth running style, sort of in the mold of Dominique Reed but not quite as rangy and probably not as fast.
