Bielema fired following Arkansas' 48-45 loss to Missouri

Arkansas fired head coach Bret Bielema immediately after Arkansas’ 48-45 loss to Missouri late Friday afternoon in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

“I was informed coming off the field that I’d no longer be the coach at Arkansas,” Bielema said after the game. “I’ll work with whoever they end up naming. If they want my help, I’ll be here 10-fold to help them in moving forward…as long as I’m not working somewhere else.”

Arkansas (4-8, 1-7 SEC) played one of their better offensive games, but it was a regular day at the office for Missouri (7-5, 4-4 SEC) as the Tigers beat the Razorbacks on a 19-yard Tucker McCann field goal with five seconds left, 48-45. The Tigers put up a whopping 696 yards of total offense in the game.

In addition to being Bielema’s final game, it was also the last game for 16 players who walked on Senior Day in Fayetteville, highlighted by nose guard Bijhon Jackson’s marriage proposal to his girlfriend. A side note, injured senior receiver Jared Cornelius did not walk. Cornelius is eligible to take a medical redshirt and return next season.

The UA is expected to announce a search committee to find the next head coach. That could be the message interim athletic director Julie Cromer Peoples relays following her press conference at 7:30 tonight.
