You knew it was coming, but no one expected it to happen the way it did and with just under two weeks until Ole Miss begins fall camp.
Hugh Freeze stepped down as the Rebels head coach Thursday, but not because of the program-threatening NCAA investigation that is still ongoing in Oxford.
He stepped down because of a "troubling" pattern of phone calls made to an escort service, according to Ole Miss A.D. Ross Bjork, who also said Freeze would have been fired had he not agreed to resign.
Needless to say, the Rebels are in bad shape. Like really, really bad shape, and you can bet other SEC programs are licking their chops. There's no shame in taking advantage of the Rebs' downfall, either. That's just how it works in major college football -- especially in the SEC.
