Arkansas native, former Razorback player and head coach Ken Hatfield is one of six new members of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

Hatfield, 74, and former San Francisco 49ers and USC star safety Ronnie Lott, Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione, Georgia Tech AD Todd Stansbury, Florida AD Scott Stricklin and former sports writer Paola Boivin of the Arizona Republic are joining the 13-member committee and will serve for three years.

Former Arkansas vice chancellor for intercollegiate athletics Jeff Long is among six members whose term is expiring. Long was the first chairman of the committee when it was formed in 2014. When he cycled out of that role, Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt replaced him.

Hocutt’s term has also expired, and he will be replaced by Oregon AD Rob Mullens. Along with Long and Hocutt, terms have ended for Clemson AD Dan Radakovich, former Notre Dame coach Tyrone Willingham, NCAA executive Tom Jernstedt and former sport writer Steve Wieberg of USA Today.

Hatfield was born in Helena, Ark. On June 6, 1943. He was a member of Arkansas’ 1964 national championship team as a defensive back and punt return specialist. He also played halfback at Arkansas. He was the head coach at Air Force in 1979 until he took the Arkansas job in 1984. He left Arkansas for Clemson in 1990 and took over at Rice after resigning despite a 32-13-1 record. He coached at Rice from 1994 until his retirement in 2005.

As the head coach at Arkansas, Hatfield mounted a 55-17-1 record, including 36-10 in Southwest Conference play. He won at least nine games in five of six seasons, and won back-to-back conference championships his last two seasons at the helm. Four of his six teams finished inside the top 15 of the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
