UA MEDIA DAY COVERAGE
Arkansas coordinators Dan Enos (offense) and Robb Smith (defense) shed light on a few guys who are standing out early in fall camp during Sunday's media day in Fayetteville. Here are some of the notable takeaways from HawgSports.com's interviews with both coaches:
1. Johnson is ready
True freshman Hayden Johnson is the only true fullback listed on Arkansas' 105-man roster in fall camp, and Enos believes he'll be able to help early and often this season.
“Hayden’s done a nice job, he’s been really good," Enos said. "In three practices you can see a guy who’s a 3.9 (GPA) student and it shows. He’s tough. He’s 250 pounds and he’s got good ball skills.
“Hayden is going to develop and be a very good player for us and I think he’ll be able to help us this year.”
Johnson arriving ready to play is good news for an Arkansas offense that hasn't had a true, go-to fullback since Kiero Small graduated after the 2013 season. The Razorbacks still have Chris Jones and Damani Carter, two guys who will definitely be on the 120-man roster.
The Hogs also use their tight ends as fullbacks, as they did many times with Jeremy Sprinkle last year. Austin Cantrell could help out there at times this season, and head coach Bret Bielema has also mentioned the idea of linebacker Josh Williams helping out in goal line and short-yardage situations.
Last year's fullback, Kendrick Jackson, is now the second-team MIKE linebacker on defense.
2. Double-R at R
There hasn't been a ton of position moves at Arkansas heading into this year, but one of the most notable ones is former linebacker Randy Ramsey going to the Rush defensive end spot.
