Recruiting Reset: Coaches hitting the road
One of Arkansas' most recent offers came out of nowhere but could result in a commitment soon.
Linebacker Andrew Parker of Sophie B. Wright High, a new school in New Orleans, picked up an offer from the Razorbacks after being visited by new Arkansas defensive coordinator John Chavis and safeties coach Ron Cooper Friday morning.
Parker, 6-2, 225, said he's penciling-in a trip to Fayetteville on the January 26-28 weekend and thinks there's a very high chance that he'll pick the Pigs.
In fact, he says it's possible for a commitment to come before he even sees the campus.
"My interest in Arkansas is very high," Parker said. "It's the SEC, playing against the best every week. I'm playing with the best linebacker coach in the nation.
"I'm definitely thinking about committing to Arkansas. They're definitely number one on my list."
Parker, who recorded 107 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery as a senior, went into the day as an overlooked prospect whose offer list consisted of Georgetown, Houston Baptist and McNeese State.
He was no secret to Chavis, though, as the 'Chief' had been evaluating him for a while.
"Coach Chavis has been on me since before he left Texas A&M, so when he got hired at Arkansas he was ready to pull the trigger," Parker said. "He had been on me personally for a month or two now."
The overlooked linebacker said he flew under the radar
"I go to a new high school," Parker said. "I've always known I was one of the best players in the state, and I just felt my time was going to come and that God was going to make a way for me. I just stayed patient and stayed humble."
Arkansas currently has eight signees -- three of which enrolled on Friday -- and one verbal commitment for the Class of 2018. The Razorbacks expect to sign between 16-18 total new additions in this year's class.
