Razorbacks set for PK80 Tournament
Arkansas will celebrate the 70th year of football in Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium when the Razorbacks host Ole Miss on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018.
Whether or not games should be played in Little Rock moving forward has been a hot topic among Razorback administrators and fans, especially with the new north end zone expansion project at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.
“I am both excited and grateful that the leadership of the University of Arkansas has chosen our longtime rival Ole Miss as the game at War Memorial Stadium in 2018,” War Memorial Stadium Commission Chairman Kevin Crass stated in a release. “As we celebrate the 70th year of the stadium, we need the fans in this part of the state to support the Hogs by assuring a sellout.”
While the DWRRS is expected to hold near 80,000 fans with a lot more premium seating, War Memorial has a max capacity of 54,120.
The last time the two programs met in Little Rock, the Rebels won 30-27 in 2012. Ole Miss won 17-3 in 1992, Arkansas' first year in the Southeastern Conference, and they won 21-17 in 1990. The Hogs and Rebels have played in the capitol city 15 times with the first meeting being a 21-10 Ole Miss win in 1913.
They have played 12 times in War Memorial Stadium, with the first game being a 34-7 Rebel win in 1952. Arkansas is 5-6-1 all-time against the Rebels in War Memorial Stadium.
This is the final game in the current contract with War Memorial Stadium. A ruling on future games in the stadium should be decided relatively soon.
“We look forward to our return to Central Arkansas to take on Ole Miss at War Memorial Stadium in October 2018,” Arkansas Interim Athletic Director Julie Cromer Peoples stated. “I know Razorback fans will be excited and ready to cheer on our team in a key Southeastern Conference Western Division matchup. Arkansas and Ole Miss first met on the football field more than a century ago and we look forward to the next chapter in this rivalry, in a venue that has hosted so many important games in this series.”
